February Musings

Well it certainly has been an interesting week. We just finished digging out from a 2 ft snow storm!  At the beginning of this week I had a fun 4 day trip to the Market Square Show in Valley Forge, PA. This is my 4th time to the show and it seems to get better each year. This year I was especially impressed with the American Made section. I found some wonderful handmade items for the shop: unique signage, beautiful hand screened pillows, funky lamps and even a new candle line.nauticalmantle

As I mentioned in my January 1 post, and as you can see from these pictures, I am starting a new nautical room in the shop. It is really starting to come together with the signage, carvings, and a nice variety of seaside items. I was inspired to decoupage on sap buckets, enlarged antique postcards of seacoast NH beach scenes. They came out great ! You can see 2 of the buckets in these photos.

New items are arriving in the shop daily. This coming week I am expecting a couple of  deliveries of some very funky and unique tables and chairs, to go with my wide assortment of table and pendant lamps.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Warm regards, Anne

January thoughts….

welcome

Welcome to Appletree Cottage!

January is usually that quiet month where post holiday customer traffic drops off.

When I opened this shop, I wanted it to be unique and not the norm so I have been working hard to restock the shop so it is a fresh experience for all of you looking to get out of the house on these gray January days in New England.

I have attended some auctions and estate sales; and have been digging through barns and basements for those interesting items for the shop. So far I have made 3 repurposed lamps that are featured on my Facebook page.

I also have this great vintage cabbage slicer that makes a great wall hanging as well as a nice pantry/linen cabinet that is the perfect size for the kitchen corner or bathroom.

Back to School Time/Fall Hours

It is with mixed feelings that I look forward to fall. It is my favorite season of the year. I enjoy the cool nights and the foliage, but I don’t enjoy the shorter days and the looming winter. I also miss my kids at this time of year as they all head back to school.

Before the kids headed back to school we enjoyed a nice week-long family vacation in mid Coast Maine. While on vacation I attended some flea markets, an auction and rummaged through many antique shops. I also met some talented Maine artists and craftsmen and have started carrying some interesting new items. Needless to say the shop is full of some great “new”  and unique items.

I found some great architectural pieces to continue to make the most funky, one of a kind lamps. This past week I made all types of lamps (clam bucket, wood buoy, phonograph, funnel) and have plans to make a half-dozen more in the coming weeks.

I have a beautiful hoosier and some unique tables and side boards in the shop that won’t last long. They are in great shape and were a great vacation find!

Starting the week of September 17 I will be changing to my normal fall hours of 10 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday to Saturday and 11AM to 4 PM on Sundays. Still closed on Mondays. I can always open by appointment. This has been very convenient for my out of state customers. This year I will again have extended shopping hours and special events in November and December.

I am approaching my second anniversary for Appletree Cottage and have started the planning process for our 2nd Anniversary Customer Appreciation Days for October 5 and 6. I will be posting details here on my blog and on Facebook shortly.

Thank you for your continued support, I look forward to seeing you soon.

Warm regards, Anne

Summer Fun

We are in the dog days of summer. Hard to believe the kids will be going back to school at the end of this month. I hope everyone is having a great summer!

This was my first summer in my new location and it has been a busy summer. The customer support has been fantastic. I really do appreciate the regulars that come in each week and the tourists that have found my new location. The rainy days and too hot days, have been bad for the beach, but good for shopping.

I have been enjoying my summer searching for those unique one of a kind items that I love to carry. I have been to estate sales, auctions, yard sales and have traveled throughout New Hampshire and southern Maine on a buying spree to load up Appletree Cottage for the back to school/ fall shopping days.

The shop is the fullest it has been. Currently I have a great selection of tables, all sizes, wood types and colors. The tables range from end tables and coffee tables that would be great for an apartment, to all types of dining room and family room tables for the home.

In addition to the great table selection,  I continue to make all types of unique lamps and they have been the most popular item this summer.

For the next couple of weeks I am looking forward to family time while the kids are still home and looking forward to a nice vacation on the coast of Maine.

So while we don’t want the summer to end, I am already in the planning stages for our 2nd annual Customer Appreciation Days on Friday October 5 and Saturday October 6 to celebrate Appletree’s Second Anniversary!

Please stop in and say hi!

Warm regards, Anne
